No Glitch with this Hitch : Curt Manufacturing 16125 Q5 5Th Wheel Hitch
I purchased this hitch for my pickup as I understood from reading that this is a really good 5th wheel hitch. While the hitch itself seems solidly constructed I am not impressed with it in several areas. I hope it will do the job and not leave me stranded, but I'm beginning to wonder. Your mileage may vary, but at least on mine the zerk fittings are crap. It wouldn't be so bad that they are in difficult areas to reach without much clearance - accept one issue. I had a grease gun (cheapy) that I have used for years. It would only go on the center fitting. I first figured that was because I bought a Harbor Freight quality tool years ago and perhaps I should get a better gun. We (my wife and I) were going on a camping trip so with the new hitch and only one location being able to be greased because of the zerk fittings I figured I would stop at Home Depot on the way and get a decent grease gun. Bought an expensive Lance (a grease gun for $25 is at least expensive to me...) Went out to the truck that had the 5th wheel trailer attached and tried to grease the two remaining zerk fittings. The first one I put the gun on was greased fine, however, the gun would *NOT* come off the fitting. Backing off the grease gun tension by unscrewing did nothing. I ultimately had to break the fitting by prying the gun off the fitting. So much for the camping trip. Now, finally a month later I decided to try to fix the broken fitting. Replaced it with a fitting from a box of fittings that I bought here. That worked. Now with new expensive grease gun in hand (the other was ruined by the fitting that couldn't be extracted), I greased it. Worked perfect. Went to the other fitting that I hadn't greased before. Even after releasing all tension on the grease gun fitting it simply broke off the zerk fitting when I tried to get the gun off. Replaced that one. Now I have something I think may work.
However, the fact that two of the 3 grease points broke when I first tried them leaves me wondering. What happened to quality control?
BTW.... Expect some rust with this thing. I had brand new rails installed and when I had to pull this heavy beast off in order to try to fix it (after a small amount of time) there was already rust.
For a hitch that is supposed to be top notch (at least from what I read) I'm a bit disappointed.
